Project 4 (systems and interventions)- We are the Same

For my social network system I decided to use twitter. I chose twitter due to its trending ability through a hashtag (#) search data base and it's flux of famous individuals that use the site. I paired these focal points of twitter with my interest in the various interpretations of light and dark to create dual profiles of light and dark that communicate solely with one another while engaging with the entire twitter spectrum through their hashtags. The conversation I create between light and dark relies primarily on quotes from well known individuals who are then hash-tagged. The dialogue begins with Light tweeting a quote to Dark in regards to the advantageous quality of light. Dark tweets back to Light arguing its' claim with a quote about the benefits of darkness. The debate continues with quotes being interwoven to play off of one another to create an at times humorous dialogue. The conversation shifts when Light claims it is Dark and Dark claims it is Light. With the roles reversed and the dialogue continued these polar opposites eventually come to the realization they are essential one in the same and begin to simultaneous tweet "WE ARE THE SAME". I believe my reshaping of Twitter derives from my usage of the system as a means to create a conversation, through appropriation of found text, that explores the similarity through deference of things and ideas.

Project 4 (systems intervention): Dark Twitter →

The Dark042013 twitter initially began as a channel of quotes from well known individuals in regards to darkness, but through a dialogue with the Light042013 twitter the Dark profile transformed into the Light twitter. It was in this transformation that the two profiles realized they were the same.

Project 3 (vanishing point): Title- “Ruins”. A series of images that progressively vanish through pixel distortion caused by a manipulation of scale and jpeg opening/saving repeatedly. Deals with the vanishing of clarity, scale, and the building’s physical state and usage.
